Meta announced on Tuesday a new update to Facebook’s algorithm designed to deliver Reels videos that better match each user’s personal interests. The latest update introduces several improvements — including enhanced video controls, AI-powered search suggestions, and interactive friend bubbles — aimed at making the platform more engaging and customizable.
Facebook is also making it easier for users to fine-tune their feeds. Now, users can select “Not Interested” on any Reel or flag a comment, which signals the recommendation system to adjust future video suggestions accordingly.
The familiar “Save” feature has been upgraded as well, allowing users to organize and access their favorite Reels and posts in one convenient place.
These updates are likely a response to growing user complaints about spammy, repetitive, or low-quality AI-generated videos that frequently appear in feeds. In recent months, Meta has heavily invested in artificial intelligence, even launching a short-form video section called “Vibes” inside the Meta AI app — dedicated entirely to AI-generated clips.
Additionally, the algorithm refresh aims to highlight newer content. Meta says users will now see up to 50% more Reels posted within the same day they’re browsing, ensuring fresher and more relevant video experiences.
Facebook Reels adds AI-powered search and new social features
As part of Meta’s latest update, Facebook Reels will now include AI-driven search suggestions designed to help users discover more videos related to their interests. These smart prompts will suggest search terms beneath videos — much like the gray keyword recommendations seen on TikTok — encouraging deeper content exploration.
In addition, Facebook is rolling out new “friend bubbles” on both Reels and the main feed. These bubbles will show which posts and videos a user’s friends have liked, creating a more connected and interactive browsing experience. By tapping a friend’s profile bubble, users can instantly open a private chat, making it easier to engage and share content directly within the app.
